Membership Expectations
As a member of Theatre Guild, you have certain responsibilities toward the organization and your fellow members. The following is a list of the expectations for all members of the organization.
SCHOOL RULES
Theatre Guild is an organization sponsored by the Ann Arbor school district, and we must comply with all district rules. Please remember that the school rules apply to everyone on school property. Nobody is exempt. If you fail to meet these requirements, you can be asked to leave Theatre Guild. Here are some specific reminders:
- Academic Eligibility
- Standard school district policy is in effect.
- Members must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
- Members must be passing at least five classes.
- Eligibility is determined by the most recent nine-week quarter grades.
- Students who are ineligible will not be allowed to participate, no exceptions.
- If you believe you have special circumstances, speak to Theatre Guild's Sponsors, Susan Hurwitz or Mysti Plummer.
- Illegal Substances
- Federal and state law prohibits possession of tobacco or alcohol by a minor, or any illegal substance by anyone.
- State law prohibits tobacco or alcohol consumption by anyone on school property.
- Anyone found using any illegal substance during Theatre Guild activities will be expelled from Theatre Guild.
- Physical violence is prohibited by school rules.
- Sexual harassment is prohibited by school rules.
- Destruction of school district property or other's personal property is prohibited by school rules.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Theatre Guild spends a great deal more money on each production than we receive from ticket sales and district sponsorship. Therefore, we must rely heavily on member contributions.
- Members are also expected to pay a modest $30 membership fee for each semester they participate in a Theatre Guild show or $55 if you are active both semesters.
- This fee enables the parent Booster Club to provide support services for students, including rehearsal meals the week before opening night and snacks backstage during intermission. It also gives each student and family members the opportunity to come to the annual banquet and award ceremony held each spring.
- If you are only participating in FutureStars, the membership fee is $15.
- Each member is expected to sell a minimum of $100 in program ads each year .
- Selling ads is a quick and easy way to raise money. You should have very little trouble with this requirement. Click here for help on how to sell ads. Members are encouraged to sell additional ads if they can.
- Members who have not met this requirement will receive an obligation for $100 on the school records, and will not be able to graduate until it is paid.
- If you are only participating in FutureStars, the ad deposit is $25.
- If there is a problem with meeting either requirement, please speak to Theatre Guild's producer, Susan Hurwitz.

- Remember that behavior and attitude will be considered in the selection of crewheads, student directors, and traveling crews.
The Space
- Theatre Guild uses school district property.
- Even though Theatre Guild uses the theatre area most frequently, we are not the only organization that uses it, and it does not belong to us.
- Please respect the space.

- Anyone who breaks materials belonging to Theatre Guild or to the school district through negligence or willful destruction will be asked to replace them.
Booster Club
- Theatre Guild also expects a great deal of support from the parent Booster Club. Each Theatre Guild parent is expected to contribute 2 volunteer hours per semester.
- Please give your parents the information you have received about the Booster Club and encourage them to participate.
Please sign that you have read and understand these expectations on your Membership Form. If, for any reason, you do not agree to these expectations, please speak to the student Executive Board.
Thank you for your cooperation. If all members fulfill their responsibilities, we should have a fun and exciting year in Theatre Guild!
